If the egg had been properly washed and thus most of the bacteria on the outside of egg shell removed, eating that egg raw would have lower risk of getting sick from it. However, most people in the US do not trust the merchant to have properly washed the egg they sell. The reduction in nutritional value by soft boiling an egg is minimal.
